Can you tell us more about this format?

My concern is that this is inappropriate archival format (since I've never heard of it). In the future we're much more likely to be able to be able to open files that were stored in a known, open format (i.e. MPEG) than some proprietary format (it could be that this format you're talking about is open, I've just never heard of it). Also of concern is that no one will be able to view these videos - again, having the videos in a common format is much easier.

A VIDEO TS file structure is the Standard of DVD.
It includes an IFO (menu navagaiton) and VOB (multiplexed video/audio/subpictures) files.

This is the DVD standard. If you open any DVD it is what you will see on the disc. MPEG-2 FILES, while DVD compliant, require an Authoring program before you can burn them to disc. A VIDEO TS file structure is burn ready

I have gone to a great length to include menus, extra features and PCM uncompressed sound. If I rip it to MPEG2 I will have to use MPEG sound and will loose all of my authoring. I would love to share these discs with others on the archive.

I think VIDEO TS file structures for DVDs should be considered for the archive. These are becomming very common amoung video traders. I think end users maybe happy because they can burn them right away to DVD video for playback in their settop players.

Ok. If you, or someone you know, can write a Linux command-line tool, using open source software, to convert these types of files into MPEG2, we can host the original Video TS files, along side the others.

There is an aura of mystery with your generous offer. Can you give further information about the movies to satisfy my extreme curiosity? I hope they will be available in the small MPEG4 format as most users, outside the USA ,have very limited ISP quotas and find it impossible to download the lsrge MPEG2 files

These would be live music concerts by bands that are audio and video taper friendly. Mostly stuff by Michael Franti and Spearhead
